What is a Crimp connection?
In order for an SMA actuator to perform its function in the overall system, a system connection for force transmission must be ensured. Particularly in the case of pull actuators, where there is no form closure to the periphery, solutions for force transmission must be determined. In addition to the mechanical system connection, the SMA component must also be electrically contacted in active systems. The crimp connection is one of the simplest and most widely used methods to connect an SMA actuator mechanically as well as electrically with its environment. In the crimping process, an additional usually hollow cylindrical component “barrel crimp” is force-locked to an SMA actuator by means of cold deformation.
