Increasing nitinol purity through improved melting and forging technology
Once again, this year, WirtschaftsWoche, together with Accenture & EnBW, selected the winners of the German Innovation Award. At the award ceremony on 25 June in Düsseldorf, Bosch Rexroth, WBT Industrie Elektromechanische Produkte and HHLA Sky impressed the top-class jury. Ingpuls made it to the final at its first participation – a great result for the entire team.
In recent months, the melting and forging technology has been significantly optimised and improved, increasing the purity of the nickel-titanium alloys by a factor of 10. Nickel-titanium shape memory alloys have been established for many decades, especially in medical technology.
What are shape memory alloys?
Shape memory alloys are metallic materials that change their shape when exposed to heat or cold, but always find their way back to their former shape. In the development of medical technology products, this product innovation opens up new possibilities with regard to the development of medical technology products and in other industries. The increased purity of the material ensures improved shape memory and stability. In addition to the finalists, the special prize “Innovator of the Year” was also awarded. This year, Ingmar Hoerr, founder and mRNA pioneer was honoured. At the festive event, which took place both digitally and live on site, other personalities from science and business were guests, such as Peter Altmaier, German federal minister for economic affairs and energy. The German innovation prize was awarded for the twelfth time by WirtschaftsWoche, Accenture and EnBW.
